Intro

I enjoy creating portraits in the chiaroscuro style, using bold contrast and careful lighting designs to render subjects emerging from darkness. This is not a full-time venture, rather it's part of a broader artistic project and study. I'm always happy to work with interested subjects, and I take comissions on occasion.

A surprising and touching remark that I've heard from subjects led me to grow this practice, which is that they've never seen themselves in such dignified and authentic manner. It's not just because they look better, but because the person they see in that photograph matches their own self conception.

Commissions

I take commissions on occasion. Some book for themselves, others arrange sessions as gifts for loved ones. Commissioned portrait sessions start at $1,800.

The sessions generally take place at the fully-equipped studio space in Alexandria, VA. They are unhurried and take the time they need, and often include a variety of wardrobe selections and lighting compositions. I work with several experienced makeup artists familiar with my style, commissions include their services.

Subjects are welcome to bring a companion, and the studio always has a receptionist on-site. I'm always happy to answer questions, provide references, and exhibit additional samples from my portfolio.
